Like it says on the sticker above. I really am enjoying the hell out of this show. I just have to put all these thoughts here, in some kind of order. Possibly I've had too much caffeine (read: any at all) in the last four days or so.
37 shortfilms thoughts (mostly in the form of questions) on Loki, by butterflykiki aka Chaos
1) You know, we keep getting lists of magic spell types and rules from this show, and WandaVision. And what is a list of rules - except a list of rules to break!
2) Sylvie: is she transgender? Genderfluid like Loki? Born a girl? Doesn't matter, but it is interesting in the sense of what expectations were put on her vs. Thor.
3) Did her mom die when she was young, or is she just incredibly old at this point?
4) All of the Minutemen are variants, whooops!
5) Mobius on a jet-ski! Did he get snatched from a glorious Miami Vice life to become a Time Cop? Is he actually a variant of Howard Stark, because damn that mustache looks similar to Howard's?
5) Ravonna Renslayer: did she used to go by A-23? Is that why that helmet's in her office? What's it take to graduate to name and judge status in the TVA?
6) glorious purpose - don't we all need one?
7) (Did Mobius know on some level? about the TVA being 'off'? Did he recruit Loki to undermine them?)
9) What was Sylvie's plan? Just kill the Timekeepers-- or something else? What did she want? Also, why? Self-preservation? It looked a lot more like vengeance, to me....
10) My bet: ANOTHER Loki is behind the TVA. He wants the timeline to go a certain way, and somehow stumbled on a way to set this up-- with enough power to disrupt Infinity Stones. How that happened, no idea.
11) Things that bothered me until now: All the TVA agent-hunters being humans. All of the incidents taking place on Earth. When the TVA is supposed to operate across all of time (and space??)
12) Finally on another planet! (Still wondering why all the humans, but we can go Doyle-ist on that if we have to.)
13) which leads to the re-emphasis on SPACE LIZARDS from Loki which leads to #10 above
14) "are we in the future" - maybe not? Maybe we're in the far far past? Trying to write the ending from there?
15) Love is a dagger - not a great metaphor, but not terrible? Also, fun with words between Loki & Sylvie. I'm there for it.
16) Love is for children... (means Natasha is going to be saved! Or can save herself! so does the hourglass in the middle of the TVA logo! ... look, I told you I was over-thinking this.)
17) I thought Loki & Sylvie were gonna save themselves & the people of Lamentis, then have to deal with the TVA wanting to prune Sylvie (and Loki probably, for messing up the timeline again)-- and yet NO. ahahaha. Time for a drink!
18) "only rich people with tickets get on" - said in passing in order to make us not care? about a gazillion people dying?
19) The whole thing about not caring about the bystanders-- we're all variants. All of these people are heroes of their own stories. We have a limited capacity to care about fictional beings, or heck, anyone we meet on the street. Loki & Sylvie? Are just the leading edge of that, with killing people when it suits them. Which just proves what Loki said about no-one being truly bad, or truly good.
20) I like scifi because it gives hope in stories where really, there is no hope. It's more bearable to think of the far future, or the future to the left of us, sometimes, than for me to empathize too much with hopeless situations (again).
21) "I'm a hedonist" - "I'm a hedonist, you're an idiot." (or close enough) (I died laughing.)
22) Brother/sister or lovers vibe. HA. Someone out there is pouting because this was so explicitly stated, someone is punching the air.
23) both bi, ha. Or not ha? Let's hope neither Loki nor Sylvie dies, that would be even more trope-y now.
24) per Joss Whedon: the purest emotion in the world is surprise. [He's still a git, but he was onto something there.]
25) Free Will - do we have any? (maybe only in our reactions to natural disasters do we get to change)
26) Frankly I don't believe we don't have Free Will, because just because you have a name for something (like our biological propensity to make certain choices and an inborn predilection in a certain direction) doesn't mean you really *comprehend* the entirety of it. Look at dark matter. Tell me the people who are researching it really understand it and I will laugh. They will laugh. There you go.
27) I am probably overthinking the hell out of this, but it's fun.
28) Interesting: Variations in the TVA hunters' brutality and callousness levels - 'they're all gonna die anyway' vs. Mobius
28 a) I love Mobius, man. Hope he's back next week.
29) My own need to be insanely clever and figure everything out before everyone else which sorta spoils enjoying it as I go along but sort of doesn't? Which is why I am avoiding ANY MORE SPOILERS for this show until it's finished, and that includes the reviews from people who I like. Sadly.
30) Tom Hiddleston is actually looking attractive to me now.
31) Although the Dramatic Hair Swoop of Doom is making me laugh every time. As well as distracting / annoying me. Stoppit, Hiddleston.
32) We've all got a pose; his is "dramatic brace-yourself-move-produce-daggers-from-nowhere-sleeves".
32 a) Also, Loki's ability to kick ass is really only running at Plot-Speed, and it's sometimes a tad annoying. But it was a lot *less* annoying in this ep.
32 b) I also liked that he and Sylvie annoyed/fooled/didn't-fool each other in about equal measure. Well done, writers.
33) What was up with the singing? Possibly fan-service, possibly "mom is dead, dad is dead, my world is dead, I am so screwed and this is the first time I've been out from under the TVA long enough to express feelings I'd like to not be dissected, thanks, since all records die in this apocalypse."
34) At what point in their personal timeline is Sylvie from?
35) Was she serious about the postman? I mean, lying liar who lies while telling the truth and all.
36) Was that first Variant in the first ep who was pruned in the DMV-style line a Loki? A really annoying one?
37) I want a flerken. Not a cat, a flerken.
Ahem. So, More later, probably, IDEK.
